A walkway with a statement

On this project, we completely updated the front landscape of this home in Chagrin Falls. We added a paver walkway and incorporated a multitude of natural elements such as plants, boulders, sandstone, and river rock. All of these work together to create a beautiful look that adds stunning curb appeal.

Our approach

When I first met with these clients, they originally wanted to update the front of their home with new plant material. After arriving on site for our initial meeting, I noticed a gate that led to the backyard. I immediately suggested a walkway from the driveway into the backyard for easier foot traffic for them and their guests. After presenting the clients with a 3D rendering of the proposed walkway, they loved the look and wanted to move forward.

The elevation change from the driveway to the existing concrete against the house worked perfectly to incorporate one 6 inch sandstone step, which also plays as a beautiful focal point in the design.

I suggested a paver that I thought would pair nicely with the existing stone on the house, and the clients were generous in letting us show creativity with a beautiful herringbone pattern and a black banding for contrast.

The natural boulders helped to retain the slope while adding a nice accent with the soft plant material. The river rock border against the driveway pairs nicely with the boulders while helping to prevent any mulch from washing onto the driveway in the event of a heavy rain. A walkway plus landscape project like this would be in the $10,000-$15,000 range.
