An Evergreen Oasis
After nearly 100 years, it was time to give this historic home the landscape that it deserves. In this project we tore out an existing outdated landscape and gave the home a fresh look with new plant material and a design that flows more seamlessly with the strong brick foundations.
Our approach
After nearly 100 years, it was time to give this historic home the landscape that it deserves. The planting design aimed to incorporate plants with multiple seasons of interest so that there is always something to enjoy, even during our long Ohio winters. With a good balance of evergreens, deciduous shrubs, and perennials; this landscape is set for success. The clients had expressed their want to soften the mass amount of harsh brick that this home presents. To do so, we incorporated taller evergreen trees in blank spaces that made sense such as in between windows and in front of walls.
Over time these trees will grow to fit the space more fully. During the spring and summer months a variety of perennials will show off their colors while attracting pollinators to the garden. Other focal point plants draw your eye through the landscape, most of which are evergreen to be enjoyed all year. Other than a usual spring and fall cleanup, this landscape is mostly self-sufficient. Meaning that it requires little maintenance as the season goes on. A complete tear-out, landscape design, and installation on a one-acre lot such as this could be expected to start at $35,000 and up depending on complexity and site conditions.
