Permeable Pavement Installation at East Coast Original Frozen Custard, Lyndhurst
We had the opportunity to install over 1,100 sq. ft. of Unilock TownHall permeable pavement for a new patio space at East Coast Original Frozen Custard. The result is a beautiful, functional space that the community can now enjoy.
Our approach
For this project, we followed the guidelines specified by the city of Lyndhurst, OH, for permeable pavement applications. What you don’t see beneath that beautiful brick is nearly 100 tons of clean, permeable, compacted base material, all designed to flow into a drainage system.
This approach helps reduce water runoff—especially important in urban areas with so much impervious surface. Even a small space like this can make a meaningful impact over time in managing stormwater and reducing runoff.
After excavating five dump truck loads of existing fill and debris from the site, we built up permeable clean fill, compacting as we went and adding Geogrid stabilization layered between the base stone. Once we reached grade, we began laying the 14 pallets of Unilock TownHall brick in a herringbone pattern, bordered with a traditional soldier course.
The three-color blend of red-toned bricks complements the color scheme of the custard shop and the furniture they selected, creating a cohesive and inviting patio space for all to enjoy.
